Marguerite “Peggy” Guilmette Sherman, 87, passed away April 14 after a long and successful life in Boothbay Harbor, and a comfortable stay at Chase Point Assisted Living in Damariscotta. She fought a valiant fight to the end and showed us all what it means to be strong. She was born on May 28, 1928 in Berlin, N.H.
Marguerite was one of 12 children born to Elzear and Marie Anna Tousignant Guilmette and was raised in Berlin, N.H. She was a graduate of the Maine Eye and Ear Institute in Portland and achieved the level of Registered Nurse, serving at St. Andrews Hospital in West Boothbay Harbor and St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. She was an ardent supporter of the March of Dimes and the American Lung Association.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred B. Sherman; brothers, Roland, Albert, Robert, Paul, and Ernest; sisters, Blanche and Jeanette; and grandson, B.J. Sherman.
She is survived by sister, Florence Jutras of Enfield, Conn.; brother-in-law, Lionel Roy of Berlin, N.H.; sisters, Jackie and husband Romeo Morin of Berlin, N.H., and Theresa and husband Leo Vezina of Ellington, Conn.; brother, Lucien Guilmette and wife Louise of Concord, N.H; children, Barry Sherman of Boothbay, Linda Sherman of Boothbay Harbor, Paul Sherman and wife Joni of Boothbay Harbor, Andy Sherman and wife Kathie of Hobe Sound, Fla., Dan Sherman and wife Lita of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Mike Sherman and wife Bonnie of Newnan, Ga., and Russell Sherman and wife Pam of Sebastipol, Cal.; as well as 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
As she wished, a graveside service will be held at a future date at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Berlin, N.H.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to any of the following: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund; or St. Vincent’s Thrift Shop, Berlin, N.H.
