Marie L. Winchenbaugh, 91, of Friendship, passed away on Sept. 13 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Winchenbaugh was born March 29, 1916 in Roslindale, Mass., the daughter of Charles and Louise Chevre McGonagle. She attended St. Angela’s Catholic School in Milton, Mass. and Fisher Business School in Boston, Mass.
While living in Milton, Mass., she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters of St. Mary, and taught catechism classes for many years.
After moving to Friendship in 1967, she became active in the community in the local senior citizens organization, joining the Friendship Ambulance and Fire Department Auxiliary, and was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Rockland.
She was known for her baking skills, loved digging in her garden, and spending time with her family. She was well respected as the family historian, supplying all with family knowledge, which spanned a century. She was loved for her thoughtfulness and superb wit.
Mrs. Winchenbaugh was predeceased by her husband, Vincent G. Winchenbaugh, and a daughter June Burke.
Survivors include her son, Vincent Winchenbaugh of Hull, Mass; daughter, Lois Faria of Friendship; son-in-law, Stephen Burke of Warren; grandchildren, Elizabeth Starrett of Union, Yvonne Laine and Jon Faria, both of Waldoboro, Jennifer Gaghan of Biddeford, and Tiffany Winchenbaugh and Vincent Lee Winchenbaugh of Lebanon, N.H.; and six great-grandchildren.
Per Mrs. Winchenbaugh’s request, a family Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Sweetland Cemetery, Waldoboro.
Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
