Marilyn J. Burkett, 76, longtime resident of Waldoboro, passed away at Ledgewood Manor Inc. Nursing Home in Windham on Aug. 16. Born in Friendship, she was the daughter of Floyd and Adeline (Creamer) Wotton.
Marilyn attended Waldoboro schools and graduated from Waldoboro High School in 1952. She and her husband, Lloyd Burkett, lived on Kaler’s Corner in Waldoboro for many years before moving to Jefferson.
Marilyn worked many jobs in the area, working for the Waldoboro Button Factory, Colonial Craft Rug Factory, Waldoboro Clam Factory, Medomak Canning Company, Hood’s Egg Company and Moody’s Diner.
Her love of the outdoors started early, when as a child, she enjoyed living on Cranberry Island during the summer months. In later years, she loved “running the roads,” chauffeuring friends on adventurous times of exploring roads never traveled before, and enjoying beautiful shorelines. These adventures almost always ended somewhere with a snack among friends.
She was an extremely fun person to be around, and more often than not she was the life of the party! She also enjoyed animals of all sorts as well as playing cards.
She was a member of the Waldoboro United Methodist Church.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Lloyd, in 1981; sister, Janice; and brother-in-law, John H. Stahl.
She is survived by her sister, Rita L. Stahl; niece, Karen M. Stahl; nephew, John L. Stahl, all of Westbrook; niece, Wanda J. Stahl and husband David Hodgkins, and their children, Caitlin and Marissa Stahl-Hodgkins, all of Scarborough; many cousins; and her special cat, Mitty.
