Marilyn Jean Maxcy Levensaler, 81, of North Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on March 1 after a long illness, with her loving family at her side.
She was born on Feb. 19, 1932 in Thomaston, the daughter of the late Earle and Ruth Lermond Maxcy. She grew up in Thomaston and attended local schools. In her junior and senior year she was selected to participate in the student legislature convention. She was a graduate of Thomaston High School Class of 1950.
After high school she worked at GTE Sylvania in Waldoboro until she met and married Cedric in 1958. The two have lived in North Yarmouth for over 40 years. She was a former member of the Eastern Star with the Ivy lodge in Thomaston as well as a member of the Thomaston Grange.
A lover of camping, knitting and doing ceramics, she also loved to travel. She and Cedric traveled often to Florida in the winter months, ships reunions and Kentucky to visit family. She also enjoyed music and singing and could often be found playing her keyboard and singing along. Marilyn’s beloved granddaughters have fond memories of “Nanny’s” kitchen learning to bake whoopie pies and decorating Christmas cookies.
She was known for her sense of humor. She had a deep and distinctive voice, even if you could not see where it was coming from you knew immediately who it was. Marilyn was a great storyteller and could easily turn a phrase. She also enjoyed writing poetry.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Earle Macxy Jr., Harlan Maxcy, and Robert Maxcy.
She is survived by her loving husband, Cedric Levensaler of North Yarmouth; sons, Timothy Leonard of Westbrook and Jeffrey Levensaler of Arlington, Va.; daughter, Rhonda Murphy and husband Michael of Burlington, Ky.; granddaughters, Molly Ahlman and Meghan Murphy of Burlington, Ky.; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Maxcy of Jefferson and Myra Maxcy of Thomaston; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom were very special to her.
Time of visitation 3-6 p.m., Sat., March 9 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Orff’s Corner Cemetery.
