Marilyn Paiement Nickerson passed away Dec. 18 at Coves Edge in Damariscotta with her family by her side, following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born in West Buxton, Aug. 14, 1931, the daughter of William and Gladys Emery Nickerson.
After graduating from Pierre’s Beauty School, she opened her own beauty shop on Maine St., Brunswick. She continued her education and became a cosmetology instructor. It was at this time she opened “Marilyn’s School of Hair Design”, also located on Maine St., Brunswick. Marilyn won several awards during various competitions with her “high styling” ability. After she closed the school, she opened a shop in her home on McKeen Street. She had her “regular customers”, as well as the actors and producer, Victoria Crandall from Brunswick Music Theatre. She was on the State Board of Cosmetology, and was a cosmetology instructor at Maine’s Job Corp.
She was very creative. She crocheted, knitted and loved to sew. She was an artist as well, with some of her work given to churches and restaurants. She was the epitome of class, style and grace.
She is survived by sister, Eleanore Nickerson of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; daughters, Vikki Hilton and husband Walter of Damariscotta, and Pamela Area Jones and husband Robert of Alna; sons, Andrew Paiement of Brunswick and Harry Bedigan and wife Michelle of North Yarmouth; grandchildren, Heidi Clark and husband Robert, Jr. of Jefferson, Heather Hartford and husband John of Richmond, Benjamin Okey of Bangor, Joseph Paiement of Cape Cod, Mass., Marley Paiement of Cape Cod, Mass., Jacquelynn Bedigan, and Cassandra Bedigan of North Yarmouth; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral 11 a.m., Sat., Dec. 29 at Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 612 Main St., Damariscotta with the pastor Rick Newell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to the Cove’s Edge Employee Fund, 26 Schooner Dr., Damariscotta, ME 04543 in gratitude of their love, support and excellent care given to our mother.
