Marion Janet (Dearden) Tavares, 85, of Ware, Mass., entered into rest on Aug. 14 at her home in the loving presence of her son and dedicated caregivers.
She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Harold and Marion (Forte) Dearden of W. Brookfield. She attended N. Brookfield High School and Quinsigamond College. She worked for the U.S. Navy Dept. as a clerk during WWII and later worked as a waitress and Union Steward for the Harvard Club in Boston and the Matador Room in Lehigh Acres, Fla. Before her retirement she worked for the Visiting Nurses Assoc. in Worcester. She was a published poet and known among her friends as “the gourmet cook.” She loved gardening and animals and was a member of the Congregational Church in N. Brookfield.
She is survived by her son, Dana Tavares and wife Sylvia of Damariscotta; sister, Beverly Corwell of New Bern, N.C.; brother, Robert Dearden and wife Sybil of New Bern, N.C.; grandchildren, Jesse Tavares of Damariscotta and Mea Tavares of Portland; and great-grandchild, Miles James Tavares of Damariscotta.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral service 1 p.m., Thurs., Aug. 25 at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in North Brookfield, Mass. followed by a reception at the First Congregational Church in North Brookfield, Mass.
