Marion S. MacKrell, 88, of Boothbay, died June 27 at the Gregory Wing at St. Andrews Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. MacKrell was born May 20, 1920 in Melrose, Mass., the daughter of John and Winifred Wademann Shirley, and was a graduate of Radcliffe College, class of 1940, and earned her masters degree from Columbia University.
As an English and History teacher, she taught junior high and high school classes in Hawaii, North Carolina and Long Island, N.Y.
She met the love of her life, Franklin G. MacKrell, and married him July 11, 1953. They moved to Cedar Grove, N.J., residing there from 1956 to 1977 to raise her family. She served as president of the PTA, was a substitute teacher for the Cedar Grove schools, was a member of the Little Falls United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School superintendent.
Moving to Boothbay Harbor in 1978, she and her husband resided on Western Ave., was a member of the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church, the Boothbay Region Garden Club, volunteered at the St. Andrews Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop, delivered Meals on Wheels, and assisted the Boothbay school system assessing children for its literacy programs.
She was predeceased by her husband Franklin G. MacKrell, who died in 1991, and a brother Clifford G. Shirley.
Survivors include her son John D. MacKrell and wife Linda of Arlington, Tex.; daughter, Catherine Potter and husband William of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren, Douglas MacKrell of New York City, N.Y., Matthew MacKrell of Dallas, Tex., and Jamie Potter and Nora Potter, both of Tulsa, Okla.; and two nephews and a niece.
Visiting hours July 1 at the Simmons Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay. Celebration of Mrs. MacKrell s life 11 a.m., Wed., July 2 at the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church, Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor.
