Marjorie Blanche (Turner) Ludwig, 89, formerly of Washington, died Nov. 10 at Westgate Manor in Bangor. She was born March 13, 1923 in Liberty to Arthur and Edith (Rhodes) Turner.
She grew up on her family’s farm in Liberty, walking to the one room school down the road, and later graduating from Walker High School, which meant she had to board with a family during the school week. She attended a business school in Scarborough and worked for a brokerage firm for a few years.
She married Edward Ludwig on Dec. 8, 1945. She and Ed ran the F.L. Ludwig & Son family general store in Washington until 1973. Marjorie and Ed spent 10 years of their retirement in Silver Springs, Fla.
She was predeceased by Ed who died in 2011.
She was an active member of the Evening Star Grange in Washington, Order of the Eastern Star, 4-H, the local Extension organization and was a Cub Scout den leader. She was an integral part of the Washington P.T.A.
She loved animals, especially Pipsqueaks 1 and 2. She enjoyed growing flowers in her gardens, as well as appreciating the lady slippers and Mayflowers of the Spring. She really enjoyed decorating her home throughout the year as the seasons changed. Sewing, crocheting, embroidering, arranging flowers, creating projects from recycled materials, and cooking for her family were major activities for her. She was very creative when it came to making her children’s birthday cakes.
She had a lovely sense of humor, enjoyed being teased, and always loved a good giggle. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, and always appreciated the attention and efforts of those closest to her.
She is survived by her daughters, Valerie Griffin and husband Michael of Orono and Joanne Shuman and husband Timothy of Jefferson; son, Michael Ludwig and wife Amy of Bangor; grandchildren, Nicholaus Shuman of Biddeford, Joshua Griffin and wife Susan of Bangor, Lyndsy Shuman of Portland, Kate Ludwig of Kansas City, Mo., and Benjamin Ludwig of Saco.
Friends and family are welcome to visit 6-8 p.m., Fri., Nov. 16 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Service to celebrate Marjorie’s life 1 p.m., Sat., Nov. 17 also at the funeral home. Burial Mon., Nov. 19 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
