Marjorie “Margie” Pinkham, 80, passed away at Fieldcrest Manor in Waldoboro on May 9 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on Sept. 8, 1927 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Chester and Aini (Rosenquist) Hodgkins.
Margie moved from Brooklyn, N.Y. to Jefferson when she was four years old. She attended grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse in Jefferson before attending and graduating from Lincoln Academy as the Salutatorian of her class in 1945.
On Jan. 20, 1945, she married Austin McFarland Pinkham of South Bristol. Together they built their home in McFarland’s Cove where Austin worked as a carpenter/home builder and “Margie” as his secretary. She also taught Sunday school at the Union Church in South Bristol for several years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Austin, in 1979; and her older sister, Eva Adkins.
She is survived by her four children, Chester Pinkham and wife Anne of South Bristol, Jimmy Pinkham of Augusta, Cindy Craig and husband Scott of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Tom Pinkham of South Bristol; four grandchildren, Jarrod Pinkham, Austin Craig, Andrew Craig and Kendall Pinkham; as well as her younger brother, Robert Hodgkins of Jefferson.
Margie was laid to rest next to her husband in the West Bristol Cemetery in Walpole on May 13.
Memorial service 1:30 p.m., Sat., July 5 at the Union Church in South Bristol.
