Marlene C. “Mickey” Ilves, 78, of Waldoboro, died June 4 at her home. Mickey was born on May 19, 1932 in Waldoboro to Cecil Barter and Ruby Achorn Barter. She grew up in Waldoboro and graduated from Waldoboro High School in the class of 1950. She began working at a young age at her family hen farm. She worked at Hood’s Eggs in Waldoboro, as a waitress at her family business, Barter’s Lunch and lastly at Crowe Rope in Warren where she worked as a supervisor for many years.
Mickey liked to socialize, to visit with friends and family, and spend time at her camp in Machias. She also enjoyed going on boat rides, dancing, shopping and being around people. She always looked forward to her Sunday dinner with her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sharon Barter. She enjoyed feeding the birds and her cat, “Morrie.”
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, George W. Ilves; brother, Douglas Barter; and nephew, Jason Barter.
She is survived by a sister, Laura Ralph and husband Roger of Waldoboro; brother, Gary Barter and wife Sharon of Waldoboro; sister-in-law, Rosemary Barter and companion David Melvin of Warren; nieces, Sherry Helvie and husband Gene of Indiana, Lynn Gushee and husband Kendall of Appleton, Rosa Lee Philbrook and companion Erich Culver of Port Clyde, Lorrie Staples and husband Gene of Thomaston and Karen Ilves of California; nephews, Robie Barter and wife Lorielle of Waldoboro, Douglas Barter of Waldoboro, Bruce Ilves of California and Mike Ilves of Warren; and best friend, Joyce McLain of Waldoboro.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Tues., June 8 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St. Waldoboro. Graveside service 2 p.m., Wed., June 9 at the Shuman Cemetery, Rt. 220, Waldoboro.
