Martha T. Baybutt, 81, passed away on the morning of Sept. 22 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta.
The daughter of Guy Halstead and Jessie (Penniman) Thompson, she was born April 14, 1926 in Damariscotta.
Attending New Harbor schools, she graduated from Bristol High School, class of 1943. She earned her degree from Green Mountain College in Vermont in 1945 and for a time, worked as a secretary at the Quincy Bank in Quincy, Mass.
In 1951, Martha married Richard Baybutt of Quincy, Mass. After relocating to Exeter, N.H., she worked for many years at EBPA Insurance Company of Hampton, N.H., retiring as treasurer in 1989. Upon her retirement, the couple came back to her beloved New Harbor and although she was known for her gardening and cooking talents, her greatest love was for her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family.
Her husband, Richard, predeceased her in 2001.
Martha leaves three sons, Scott Baybutt, Mark Baybutt and Richard Baybutt; brother, Dan Thompson of New Harbor; three granddaughters; one grandson; and nephews and nieces.
A private service will be held at Strong Funeral Home.
A public memorial gathering at the home of Richard and Martha will be announced in the spring of 2008.
