Mary A. Matthews, 91, died Aug. 26 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth. Mary was born May 31, 1927 in Boothbay Harbor to Hall Gray Potter and Alice Stella (Dickinson) Potter. Mary grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Lincoln Academy in the class of 1944. She married Wendell Matthews in 1946.
She worked as a cook in Boothbay at the Grammar School and later at Boothbay Region High School for over 30 years. She was a member of the Crescent Chapter #54 Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wendell Matthews, who died in 2001.
She is survived by sons, Bruce Matthews and wife Beth of Atkinson, N.H, and Larry Matthews of Otisfield; brother, Elmer Potter and wife Beverly of Edgecomb; grandchildren, Tyler Matthews of Litchfield, N.H., Adrienne DeSantis and husband Shaun of Everett, Mass., Chris Matthews of Raymond, N.H., and Craig Matthews of Thomaston; and several great-grandchildren.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 10 a.m. to noon, Thurs., Aug. 30 at Hall’s of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. A private graveside service will be held at Oceanview Cemetery in Boothbay.
