Mary B. Reeves, 83, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away at St. Andrews Hospital on Jan. 18. Born June 10, 1926 to John and Lizzie Boston Burnham, she grew up on a farm in Edgecomb. Mary graduated from Lincoln Academy in the class of 1936.
She worked in New York City during WWII doing work for the U.S. Navy. Returning home after the war she married James William Reeves and moved to Washington, D.C. where she lived for several years, while he worked for the D.C. police department. She later returned to Maine, where her husband worked in the Maine State Police Department in the Newport area.
Upon his death in 1985 Mary came to Boothbay Harbor to be near her sister, Stella Hodgdon of East Boothbay. Her sister Stella passed away in 2003.
Mary loved the Boothbay area, spending many hours at the Whale Park and Barrett Park.
She was a lifelong republican and very interest in politics, both local and national.
One of her enjoyments was being around young people and she danced at Gray’s Wharf into her 80s.
Mary is predeceased by her husband, James W. Reeves and sister, Stella Hodgdon.
She is survived by her nephew, John Hodgdon of East Boothbay and a great-niece, Melissa Hodgdon of Mansfield, Mass.
Funeral service 11 a.m., Fri., Jan. 22 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Alfred Roberts will officiate.
