Mary L. Rogers, 89, passed away Dec. 3 at Stonehedge nursing care facility, in Rome, N.Y., after a lengthy illness.
The daughter of Augustus and Lena E.C. (LeDuc) Manning, she was born Jan. 11, 1917, in Salem, Mass. Mary grew up in Salem, Mass. where she attended schools. She remained in Salem, Mass. until her marriage to Thomas W. “Bill” Rogers June 23, 1957.
The couple resided in Whitesboro, N.Y. for many years, where she was active in her church and choir. Upon Bill’s retirement, they came to the family home in Round Pond, where she remained until her illness. While there, she became active in the Round Pond United Methodist Church, continuing her passion for music, by serving in the choir. Over the years, Mary performed many solos.
She leaves her husband of 49 years, of Round Pond; stepchildren, Lois Cahill of Clinton, N.Y., and Jean Daniels of Avon Lake, Ohio; brother, Kenneth Manning of Beverly, Mass.; and many loving grandchildren.
Friends are invited to be with the family 9:30-11 a.m., Mon., Dec. 11 with a service to honor Mary’s life at 11 a.m., all at Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, with Rev. Ernest Farrar officiating.
She will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery, Round Pond, immediately following the service.
