Mary Littlefield Hefler, 84, of Brunswick, died peacefully the morning of April 21.
She was born Oct. 5, 1929, in North Conway, N.H., a daughter of Eldred and Louise (Oakman) Littlefield. She was graduated valedictorian of Calais Memorial High School, class of ’47, and earned a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Maine, class of ’51. She married Robert H. Hefler Dec. 22, 1951. Mr. Hefler died July 21, 2006.
After raising her children, Mrs. Hefler was employed at the Brunswick Navy Annex and Bath Iron Works from where she retired in 1993. She enjoyed her walks and reading, which made her a regular at the Curtis Memorial Library, Brunswick. Her greatest joy was tending to her grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband of 55 years; and brothers, Brian Littlefield, and Neil Littlefield.
She is survived by daughters, Karen Hefler and husband Gregg Wood of Wiscasset, Susan Hefler of Sebago, Lynn Bauer and husband Henry of Louisville, Tex., Brenda Hill of Sugar Land, Tex.; sisters, Jane Littlefield of Bloomington, Ind., and Nancy Greenier and husband Forest of Rockport; brother-in-law, Richard Hefler of Sebago; grandchildren, Grant Hefler, Daren Wood, Brett Bauer, Mary Beth Wade, Rachel Osborn, and Weston Osborn; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for Fri., July 25; services details to be published.
