Mary S. Byrnes, 83, of Southport Island, passed away peacefully at her home on Nov. 2, with her loving family beside her. She was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on Aug. 13, 1930, to the late Richard and Mary Raska Sucharipa.
She had a dedicated career working at the Rockland County Community College as the Assistant Director of Cultural Affairs. After retiring, she went on to spend 25 years on the Lincoln County Board of Realtors. Mary’s great source of enjoyment and happiness was spending time with her family and her beloved animals.
She is survived by her loving husband Robert Byrnes of Southport; son, Michael and wife Cathy of Methuen, Mass.; daughter, Ginny Spurgin and husband Robert of Boothbay; grandchildren, Matthew Spurgin and Kaitlyn Kalkanajian; and sisters-in-law, Diane De Vito and husband Rocky, and Eileen Byrnes.
A memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held in the spring of 2014.
