Masie Sarah (Bean) Pickett, of Hallowell, passed away Sept. 8. Masie was born in Portland on June 17, 1921. She lived with her adoptive parents J. Walter Bean and Addie Pillsbury Bean in Rangeley.
She graduated from Rangeley High School and attended Farmington Normal School. She loved the mountains and lakes of her home town. Her joyful appreciation of the natural world brought her lifelong pleasure.
Masie was married to Lloyd Pickett on Dec. 12, 1942. They raised their family together and traveled throughout the eastern U.S. with their race horses. Masie treasured her four children and stayed close to them all of her days. She cared about all children especially those who were orphaned or neglected. She loved the Lord and one of her favorite songs was “Jesus Loves the Little Children”.
When Masie was a young girl, she sat down at her mother’s piano and began playing familiar tunes by ear. Throughout her life music and piano playing were gifts that blessed her and many other people. For many years Masie worked at the Wrentham School in Wrentham, Mass.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and attended Penny Memorial Church in Augusta where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Mother’s Club. In later years she was a member of the South Jefferson United Baptist Church.
Masie’s last days were spent at the Woodlands Assisted Living in Hallowell. Fellow residents at Woodlands were like family to her. She was happy to be sharing a room with Shirley Dill of whom she spoke as her “good buddy”.
She is survived by her husband Lloyd of Randolph; children, Jo Anne Hilton and husband James of Jefferson, Susan Pickett of Watertown, Mass., Lloyd Pickett, III and wife Pamela, and Catherine Ferrell and husband David of Greene; grandchildren, Jeffrey Hilton and wife Beth, Jonathan Hilton, James P. Hilton, Judith Hilton, Heather Shone and husband Mike, Holly Clow and husband Dan, Emily Pickett, and Gleana Ferrell; great grandchildren, Izrael, Jordan, Shaanah, Randi, and Caitlyn, and great, great granddaughter Piper.
There will be no visiting hours. Memorial service 2 p.m., Fri., Sept. 12 at the United Baptist Church, Rt. 215, South Jefferson with her daughter the Rev. Jo Anne Hilton officiating.
