Matthew (Matty) Timothy Orbin, 20, passed away Nov. 17 at his home in Waldoboro. He was born July 13, 1988 in Brunswick, a son of Timothy and Nicole Lizanecz Orbin. He grew up in Waldoboro and attended local schools graduating from Medomak Valley High School, Class of 2007. He had recently completed a welding course at Region 8.
In his early school years, he enjoyed playing soccer, basketball and Little League as well as being a Cub Scout. He took guitar lessons and enjoyed learning how to play.
He and his friends enjoyed paint ball fighting. He enjoyed many family vacations in the Caribbean, on cruises and in Florida. He loved to snorkel, sunbathe and ride jet skis.
While in high school, he was employed by Hannaford. After high school, he was a stern man for Gilbert Simmons of Friendship.
Growing up with his brothers, he loved playing. They spent their time together, having mud, apple and snowball fights and liked wrestling one another.
Another favorite for Matthew was getting together with his brothers and cousins. They all would get together to play pool, barbeque and just hang out. One of his family’s traditions, which he truly enjoyed, was watching Chevy Chase in “Christmas Vacation”.
One of Matthew’s favorite memories was when he flew to Florida and drove back to Maine with his brother, Stefan. He had a great time being his “co-pilot” on the way back.
As an avid outdoorsman, Matthew could be found doing all of the things he loved outside. He enjoyed all that nature offered including walking in the woods, fishing, hunting, snow boarding, four-wheeling, canoeing and kayaking. He also loved ice fishing.
He loved to have campfires. He and his friend, Andrew, built his own fire pit in the backyard. He liked photography and enjoyed taking pictures with his girlfriend, Sharidi, of the outdoor, nature and each other.
Matthew always had a project going and was a tinkerer who loved to take things apart to see how they worked. Recently he had been working on his own clearing a piece of land his parents own, to get it ready for them to build on. Matthew’s pride and joy was his truck, he called it his baby, every night giving it a kiss goodnight.
Matty “O” was one to set his own pace, which was normally a leisurely one. Reflecting back, his dad knows it was his life lesson for us all.
Matthew talked of moving to Florida this winter, once the lobstering season came to an end, to stay with his brother, Jeff, and work for the winter.
He was a young man who loved life and loved to laugh. He was a “prankster” who enjoyed playing practical jokes. He loved to make people smile and feel happy.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents; maternal grandfather; and aunt, Helena Bohan.
Survivors include his father and mother, Tim and Nikki Orbin of Waldoboro; brothers, Jeffrey Lord of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Stefan Lord of Gray; grandmother, Peggy Lizanecz of Bath; girlfriend, Sharidi Campbell of Union; aunts and uncles, George Orbin and wife Penny of Pedricktown, N.J., Ron Orbin and wife Jan of Pennsville, N.J., Vicki Davey and husband Dan of Warren, Janie DiStefano and husband Alex of Swedesboro, N.J., Peter Lizanecz and wife Dorcas of Benton, David Lizanecz of Portland, John Lizanecz and wife Julie of Cape Neddick, and Elizabeth Thompson and husband Peter of Cornville; 24 cousins; and many, many friends.
