Maureen Anne Keating, 65, of Walpole, was freed from her earthly struggles on Feb. 2 in the presence of her family and her best friend. Maureen was born on Dec. 30, 1944, a daughter of the late Joseph D. and Delia (Bridget) M. Kelly, in the Bronx, N.Y., where she was raised.
She was a 1962 graduate of St. Simon Stock High School in the Bronx and later graduated from the Wood Secretarial School. Upon her graduation she entered the world of advertising. She was employed by Young & Rubicam in NYC as a secretary, account representative and a hand model. In 1972, she married her husband, the late Daniel W. Keating Sr. and relocated to Fords, N.J. where she was active in Our Lady of Peace Parish and School and was an elected Republican Committee Woman.
In 1983, she and her husband relocated to Maine. During her years in Maine, Maureen was employed by Robert Gonyea, MD and by the U.S. Postal Service in South Bristol and in Walpole. Where Maureen really made an impact was with her volunteerism. She was very active with the Lioness Club, Chimney Point Home Owners’ Association, the Mears Cove Homeowners Association and the Shamrocks of Saint Patrick’s Church. Her greatest legacy, however, was her involvement with The Miles Hospital League, where she spent many hours helping to create the Gift Shop and watching it thrive.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Maureen was predeceased by her sister Katherine, her brother Joseph and her niece and namesake, Maureen.
Maureen is survived by son, Daniel W. Keating Jr. and wife Cathy of Walpole; daughter, Anne Marie and husband Brad of Hummelstown, Penn.; and grandsons, Bradley and Brendan McAlester, also of Pennsylvania.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 6 by the Rev. Fred Morse at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle. Maureen was interred beside her loving husband Dan at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
