Maurice E. Woodard, 98, a resident most recently of Jefferson, died Jan. 17 at the Country Manor after a long illness.
Maurice was born Dec. 13, 1911 in Hallowell, was orphaned and raised in foster homes; the last foster home was with Fannie and Lon Heartt of Winthrop.
Maurice worked as a mechanic for most of his life both in Maine and Florida. Maurice lived the last few years of his life at the Country Manor in Coopers Mills, where he had many friends.
He is predeceased by his wife Ruby, second wife Ellen, and stepdaughter, Ethel Baker of Jefferson.
Surviving family include stepchildren, Forest Carver of Tacoma, Wash., Lucille Carver of Augusta, and David Carver of Beacon Falls, Conn.; also 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Maurice’s life 1 p.m., Sat., Jan. 23 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
