Maurice W. Cunningham, Sr., 94, passed away Feb. 6 at Fieldcrest Manor in Waldoboro.
He was born May 28, 1912, in Nobleboro, a son of William Cunningham and Carrie Eugley Cunningham.
He was a sawmill worker and farmer all his life on the Upper East Pond Road in Nobleboro. He was a member of the Pony Pulling Association for over 20 years. He pulled ponies in all the fairs until he retired in 1994 at the age of 82. He was featured in a couple of newspaper articles, buying sauerkraut at Morses in Waldoboro and picking 42 quarts of strawberries in one day and selling them door to door until they were gone.
He was predeceased by his wife, Alice DeRosier Cunningham, who died in 1981; his companion of the last 27 years, Anne Nadeau; sons, Maurice Cunningham, Jr., Donald, Paul, and Cecil Cunningham; and siblings, Grace Winslow, Howard Cunningham, Ralph Cunningham, Ines DeRosier, and Lillian Winslow.
He is survived by two sons, Richard I. Cunningham and wife Wendy of Somerville, and Alexander Cunningham and wife Faye of Bristol; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation 10-11 a.m., Fri., Feb. 9, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro with Rev. Robert Dorr officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dunbar Cemetery in Nobleboro.
