Maynard William Howell, 88, of Nobleboro, passed away peacefully on Nov. 4 surrounded by his loving family.
Maynard was born in Nobleboro on Oct. 5, 1925, the son of Edward and Laila Howell. He grew up on East Pond Road in Nobleboro.
He graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1943. Maynard lost his father at an early age so during his high school years much of his time was spent helping his mother run the family farm.
On April 17, 1948 he married Barbara Wood of Rockland. They resided on the farm and raised their four children. He continued to operate the dairy farm until 1967. For the next 20 years he worked in the Waldoboro area for Roland Genthner, Sulo’s Texaco, and Jamieson’s Plumbing and Heating.
Maynard was a hard-working man who always looked out for his family. Also, anyone that knew him will remember his willingness to help anyone in any way he could. He was known for always offering help to friends, neighbors and family and following through when he could.
After retiring, he and his beloved wife, Barbara, enjoyed their quiet life on the farm. The birds and the wildlife in the backyard gave him great joy. However, his greatest joy was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was so proud of his family.
Maynard was predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara, in April of this year and his parents.
Maynard is survived by daughter, Sue and husband Paul Daiute of Hallowell; sons, Barry and wife Karen of Nobleboro, Scott of Wilder, Vt., and Stephen and wife Denise of Orrington; grandchildren, Christopher, Elizabeth, Patrick, Amber, Ashleigh, Alyssa, Cameron, Nathan and Caroline; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Julianna and Giovanni; and many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held.
