Medreth B. Haskell, 98, of Portsmouth, N.H., died Jan. 31 at the Mark Wentworth Home where she resided the past four years. She lived at Meeting House Village in Kittery for eight years previously.
She was born in Norwood, Mass., July 21, 1915 the daughter of John and Ida Dennison. She graduated from Dedham High School and attended Burrows Business School. Medreth and husband Charles resided in Westwood, Mass., where she was the director of the high school lunch program until retiring in 1972.
In 1955 they built a cottage and spent summers on Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson. After retiring she became a permanent resident and spent the next 30 years living in Jefferson. The thing she loved the most was spending time with her family, especially grandchildren at the cottage on the lake. She was a member of the Bunker Hill Church and Ladies Aid.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Haskell; brother, Jack Dennison; and nephew, David Haskell.
Family members include her daughter, Marcia Daughtrey and husband Cal of Hampton, N.H.; grandchildren, Leigh Starer and husband Brian, and Peter Berriman and wife Alexis; great-grandchildren, Emily and Hadley Starer, Tilden and Zander Berriman; nieces, Liz and Jane Dennison; nephews, Harry and Richard Haskell; and extended family, Mary Dennison, Brian, Colin and Brandon Daughtrey.
A memorial service will be held at the Mark Wentworth Home in Portsmouth and later in the spring at the Bunker Hill Church in Jefferson. Time and dates will be announced at a later date.
