Melissa “Missy” Kent, 17, of Warren, died July 5 at her residence.
She was born in Rockport, the daughter of Donald Kent and Rhonda (McLellan) Kent on Aug. 28, 1990, and was a graduate of Medomak Valley High School, class of 2008.
Missy was beautiful, funny, kind and had the biggest heart that one could ever hope to find in a 17 year old. She was a girl whom everyone wanted to be around. She was always helping and putting others needs before her own; whether she was helping someone improve their soccer skills, or building a home for someone while on a mission trip to Honduras. No matter what your problems were or how bad it seemed, Missy was there with a smile on her face and two strong hands to help. She also loved like no one else; she loved her family, her friends, her teachers and mentors. She loved the thought of meeting new people. She put her heart and soul into every relationship she had. Missy’s unconditional love and trust was the greatest gift she could give you.
Missy worked so hard in every aspect of her life. She was voted on by the student body of Medomak Valley High School as “Most Versatile”, and the term could not have been any more accurate. She gave 110 percent in everything she did, from school, to playing her clarinet (in which she advanced to the position of first chair clarinet), to soccer and softball, to her job at JC Penny’s. Her hard work and dedication paid off as she graduated an honor student, cum laude. She was awarded the Coaches Award in Softball along with the KVAC All Academic Award and was also involved in the National Honor Society, and PAWS (Peers Assisting With Sincerity). She was planning on attending classes at the University of Maine in Orono to study to become a marine biologist. You could call Missy a social butterfly considering all the friends that she had, and the passion she had for making new friends. If a new student came, Missy would be the first to introduce herself, and do anything to make that person feel welcome. Missy loved animals, even as a young child, she showed interest in helping the neighborhood wildlife; be it through her lemonade stands with her sister meant to raise money for the local animal shelter, or by saving a baby bird found in a friend’s barn and nursing it back to health. Missy loved her family and was never shy about showing her love.
Miss was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Edward McLellan, and paternal grandmother, Patricia Kent.
Surviving are her mother, Rhonda Kent of Warren; father, Donald Kent and wife Arlene of Camden; two sisters, Kristina “Krissy” Warren and companion David Campbell of Union and Celena Kent of Warren; maternal grandmother, Roberta McLellan of Livermore Falls; paternal grandfather, Charles Kent and wife Joyce of Gorham; and uncles, Robert McLellan and companion Vickie of Thomaston, Charles and Pennie Kent of Union, and Dr. Steven Kent and Dr. Karin Kent of Pinehurst, N.C.
