Melissa S. Sawyer, 48, of Damariscotta, suddenly and tragically left this earth as a result of an automobile accident on March 25.
Melissa’s love and joy were her immediate and extended family. She took great pride in the love and successes of her husband, Troy Sawyer, as well as her children Shania Melvin, Zachary Melvin, and her bonus children Isabelle and Ben Sawyer, Kassidi Gilbert, and Shania’s boyfriend Patrick Madden. She also cherished the love of her mother Eileen Parsons, her step-father Terry Parsons, her step-mother Dixie Sproul, her brother Kevin Sproul and his wife Lynn, her sister Shawna Wing and her partner Aaron Poulin, her half-brother Troy Sproul and his wife Karen, her stepbrother Adam McNaughton and his wife Judy, stepbrother Jason LaCrosse and wife Michaela, and stepsister Angela Gallagher and husband Paul.
Melissa’s life was best characterized by love. In recent years she worked as a caregiver to senior citizens and she saw her job as bringing as much love, joy, and comfort to their lives as she could. Prior to this she worked for many years in various roles at local schools where she was loved by those whose lives she touched.
Melissa graduated from Medomak Valley High School in the Class of 1987. Her hobbies were diverse and many, including photography, kayaking and spending time outdoors with friends and family.
Melissa is predeceased by father, Craig (Butch) Sproul; uncle, Ricky Sproul; grandparents, Nadine (Maime) Achorn, and Austin Achorn; grandfather, Richard Crabtree; and stepbrother Rich Wilkes.
In addition to her husband and children, mother, stepfather, stepmother, brothers and sisters, Melissa is survived by her grandparents Clyde and Joan Genthner of Bremen; grandmother, Greta Crabtree; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandniece, cousins and special friends.
Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Fri., March 30 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A service to celebrate Melissa’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., March 31 at the Medomak Valley High School gymnasium.
