Melvin C. Lewis, M/Sgt. USAF, Retired, 84, of Dresden, died on Aug. 14 in Brunswick.
He was born in Gray on Nov. 13, 1925, the son of Earl W. Lewis and Marion Kelly Lewis. Melvin attended Richmond schools.
Melvin had resided throughout the years in Gray, Randolph, South Gardiner and Dresden.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and Air Force, retiring in 1964 after over 20 years of service.
Melvin retired to Dresden, where he and his family made their home.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Augusta.
Melvin was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in younger years.
Melvin is predeceased by his wife, Verona E. Pinkham Lewis; sister, Nancy M. Lewis Howard; brothers, Edward E. and Norman C. Lewis; half-sister, Irene Thrower Hudson; half-brother, John W. Thrower; and mother-in-law, Mildred E. Pinkham; and half-sister Iva Bromley.
He is survived by son, Peter J. Lewis and wife Patty Sue of Dresden; daughter, Deborah A. Lewis McAllister and husband Jeffrey of West Bath; brothers, Wayne P. Lewis of Chesterville; brother-in law, Wendell Hudson of South Gardiner; grandchildren, Chelsie I. and Kiara E. Lewis of Dresden, Rebekka A. McAllister Jackson and husband Aron Jackson of Charlotte, N.C. and Justin M. McAllister of Virginia Beach, Va.; great-grandchildren, Alaynah B. Jackson, Tyler R. Jackson, both of Charlotte, N.C.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside service Aug. 19 at the New Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta with full military honors.
