Michael George Bishop, 61, passed away on March 29 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Westfield, Mass. on May 31, 1952 and lived there until 2005 when he moved to Maine.
After graduating from Westfield High School, Mike worked various jobs. The last 35 years he became a carpenter, where he learned to become a master at his trade. He had great joy seeing the fruits of his labor and the gratitude in the eyes of his customers.
Michael had a great love of nature and was happiest being outdoors, walking in the woods with his granddaughter, or walking at Dodge Point with his mother and sister.
Since moving to Maine, Michael had made many friends with whom he loved to spend time. He was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his calling as a home teacher, visiting church families with his companion.
He is survived by his mother, Allice Anderson of Jefferson; daughter, Maryanne Bishop of Massachusetts; grandchildren Kalee and Anthony of Massachusetts; brothers, Dennis Bishop and Joel Healey; half-brothers, Kevin and Gary Bishop of Massachusetts; sisters, Sheryl Bishop of Jefferson, and Kelly Bishop of Connecticut; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sun., April 27 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Belvedere Rd., Damariscotta. This will be followed by a gathering, with light refreshments, for family and friends at the home of Don Verrecchia, 49 Bayberry Lane, off Rt. 220, in Friendship, where all will be able to view Michael’s woodworking accomplishments throughout the house. All are welcome.
The family requests no flower arrangements.
