Mildred E. Smith, 89, passed away on the morning of Sept. 1 at Cove’s Edge Nursing Facility in Damariscotta. Born on Feb. 15, 1923, she was the daughter of Harold and Nina (Hatch) Kelsey.
Her family moved from South Bristol to Jonesboro when she was young, and she attended local schools there. While living down east, she worked in the sardine and blueberry factories for several years.
She would move back to the local area and go to work for GTE Sylvania in Waldoboro, from where she retired, after 32 years. She was a tremendous family person, and nothing was more important to her than her own.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son Calvin; grandson, Troy; brother, Leon; sister-in-law, Marie; and nephews, Aaron and Peter Kelsey.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Autio and husband David, and their children, David Jr., Waino, and Susan; son, Richard and wife Linda, and their children, Dicky and Darren; son, Dennis Smith and his children, Carla and Kelley; and Calvin’s children Cherry, Angela and Kathleen; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service 11 a.m., Fri., Sept. 7 at the West Bristol Cemetery in Walpole.
