Misty Morning Wood, 32, of Alna, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 2 at her home.
Misty was born in Millington, Tenn. July 9, 1980 to Cheryl Ann Fox and Mark Alan Wood. Due to her father’s military career her family moved many times throughout the U.S. during Misty’s childhood. Misty quickly made friends no matter where they resided.
For her senior year of high school the family settled down in Woolwich. It was during that time, at the young age of 17, Misty met her true love, Cullen Wilson. After college, Misty and Cullen were married in 2002 and they had their beautiful daughter, Violet Wilson-Wood the following year. Three years ago they purchased their dream house in Alna and settled down to raise their small family.
Misty was so generous and caring to her family and close friends. Her passion and open-mindedness touched all who knew her. She will be missed most of all for her contagious sense of humor.
Family was always Misty’s first priority and she often remarked that Violet was the best thing she had done.
Another source of pride for Misty was the potential she showed in politics during an internship with the Maine Democratic Senate Majority Office. She had tremendous influence on many in her short life through her personal connections as well as her volunteer work.
She was intensely passionate in her beliefs and spent time educating herself, and working toward, equal rights for women and for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
She loved to travel and experience the past and present of significant U.S. and world locales. She planned to return to school and earn a teaching certificate. She wanted to share her passion for U.S. and world history with the next generation.
All of those who knew Misty learned from her example how to be better and stronger people. She was taken from us before we could see the full impact of her realized potential to change the world. What is sure is that in her life she made the world a better place.
Misty is survived by her husband, Cullen Wilson; daughter, Violet Wilson-Wood, both of Alna; sister, Skye Wood; mother, Cheryl Lewis of Woolwich; father, Mark Wood of Mount Laurel, N.J.; grandmother, Betty Fox of Eaton, Ohio; and grandparents, Max and Peggy Wood of Lexington, N.C.
The family thanks those who joined them for a remembrance and celebration period of Misty on Oct. 6.
They invite those who are so inclined to donate to Violet’s College Fund and/or Equality Maine in lieu of flowers via Misty’s memorial website: www.memorialwebsites.legacy.com/mistymorningwood/homepage.aspx
