Mrs. Edith F. (Dellepigne) Jacobs, 80, of Waltham, Mass., died Dec. 17 in Cambridge Hospital.
Edith was born on Sept. 10, 1930 in Waltham, Mass., the youngest daughter of Joseph and Maria (DiSauro) Dellepigne. She was a graduate of Waltham High School. Her late husband, Richard, served in the U.S. Navy and together they lived in various parts of the country during his career including Washington and Long Beach, Cal. She returned to her much loved Waltham in 1968 after having lived in Bellingham for 10 years.
Edith stayed at home to raise her five boys. Afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis almost 40 years ago she lived her life with grace and dignity amidst its many setbacks and challenges. She was a talented piano player, artist and painter. Her children recount how she was a devoted mother and fantastic cook with her specialty being anything Italian. In earlier years she taught in the CCD program at St. Mary’s Church.
She is predeceased by her husband, Richard P. Jacobs Sr. who died on June 28, 2008 and son, Randall D. Jacobs on Aug. 14, 2007.
She leaves sons, Richard P. Jacobs and wife Jane of Bolton, Mass., Ronald Jacobs and wife Lisa of Uxbridge, Reynold “Joseph” Jacobs of Damariscotta and Robert Jacobs and wife Andrea of Walpole, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane (Anderson) Jacobs of Waltham, Mass.; sisters, Millie Warren, Dora Jasset, Yolanda Antico, all of Waltham, Mass., and Eleanor Pendergast of Framingham, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Edith’s life by gathering for calling hours 5-8 p.m., Wed., Dec. 22 at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St., (Rt. 20), Waltham, Mass. and again at 9 a.m., Thurs., Dec. 23 morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School St., Waltham, Mass. where a funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham, Mass.
