Muriel C. “Peggy” Lermond, 94, passed away on Aug. 22 at Cove’s Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta, where she was the president of the Resident Council.
Peggy was born May 31, 1913 in Albion, the daughter of Clarence and E. Maude Robinson Coffin. She was a graduate of Waldoboro High School, Class of 1930.
She was employed by Meserve House in Jefferson for several years and was a domestic for many local families.
She will be remembered for having a contest where people would guess the date of “ice out” on Damariscotta Lake and the winner would receive her homemade donuts as the prize.
She was an active member, past president and held a state office of the Jefferson Women’s Club. She was a member of the North Nobleboro Baptist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Lermond; son, Robert Lermond; and companion, Clifton S. Jones.
Survivors include her son, Carroll Lermond and wife Susan of Damariscotta; daughter, Charlotte Knight and husband Ralph of Jefferson; grandchildren, Robert Lermond of Union, Jeff Knight of Windsor, Lisa Nelson of Virginia Beach, Va., and Patricia Weiss of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside service 10 a.m., Wed., Aug. 29 at the Highland Cemetery, Rt. 126 in Jefferson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Resident Council, Coves Edge Nursing Home, 26 Schooner St., Damariscotta, ME 04543.
