Muriel Elaine Trask, 86, of Wiscasset, passed away on April 22 surrounded by family, at her daughter’s home in Brunswick.
She was born in Bangor on Feb. 1, 1927, the daughter of Clifford and Marjorie Monto. Elaine was a graduate of Wiscasset Academy and Wilfred Academy of Hair and Beauty Culture in Boston, Mass. She married Chester “Chet” Trask in 1947 after his military service during WWII in the Pacific theatre.
Elaine was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, and loved her family, friends and all animals. She was a petite woman with a huge heart, opinionated “stubborn” at times, yet always there to listen and help others. People who visited her will always remember her big smile with her cup of tea and freshly baked cookies. She was a devoted wife and mother, a stay-at-home mom for her daughters yet she supported her husband’s business, Chet’s Sunoco Station, in Newcastle, for over 20 years. In her later years, she earned her CNA certification and provided home health care services in the Lincoln County area for persons with intellectual disabilities and chronic health conditions.
She is predeceased by her husband, Chester “Chet” Trask; mother and stepfather, Alfred and Marjorie (Dodge) Dowling; and grandson, Shawn York.
She is survived by her daughters and their partners, Colleen Leonard and John O’Connell of Brunswick, Joan Smyrski and Don Williams of Jefferson, and Janet Grondin of Brunswick; granddaughter and husband, Beth and Sammy Barter of Boothbay; and great-grandchildren, Brogan Barter, Madison Barter, and Breanna York. Elaine was also a host parent for an AFS student, Coteaux Colina, from Chile.
A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at a later date at her home in Wiscasset with family and close friends.
Donations may be made to the Wiscasset Library, 21 High St., Wiscasset, ME 04578 or the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
