Myron “Ron” P. Farnsworth, 83, of Oak Hill, Fla. and Vergennes, Vt., passed away Feb. 4 at his home in Oak Hill, Fla.
He was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Oxford, Mass., the son of Ira and Emily Farnsworth.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and he earned a Purple Heart. He spent 26 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired to Wiscasset in 1974. He built and raced his own racecars, was an avid NASCAR fan, and collected Jaguars. He raced at Wiscasset Raceway and at other tracks around the state. He owned and operated Farnsworth’s Garage in Wiscasset for many years.
Myron is survived by his longtime friend and companion, Phyllis Smotherman of Oak Hill, Fla.; two daughters, Linda Hedelund of Winooski, Vt., and Toni Whitney of Wiscasset; two sons, Myron “Butch” Farnsworth Jr. of Burlington, Vt., and Jerry D. Farnsworth of San Antonio, Tex.; stepdaughter, Bonnie Primm of Burlington, Vt.; brother, Ira Farnsworth of Vergennes, Vt.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services Feb. 9 at Brown-McClay Funeral Home, 48 South Maple St., Vergennes, Vt. Interment held in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes, Vt. Friends called Feb. 8 at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes, Vt.
