Myrtle Ada Hewes, 74, of Washington, passed away Feb. 6 at Pen Bay Medical Center, Rockport.
Myrtle was born Oct. 6, 1933, in Washington, a daughter of the late Robert E. (Sr.) and Blanche Creamer Grierson. She grew up and graduated from school in Washington.
She was employed for several years by Penobscot Poultry in Belfast. She worked for the Town of Washington as Town Clerk, Treasurer and Tax Collector for many years. She volunteered at the Prescott Memorial School for many years while her children were young.
She enjoyed hunting and all types of fishing, including brook and ice fishing. She liked to knit and crochet, watch western movies and the Red Sox, and she loved going to all of her grandchildren’s events.
She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary in Washington, and the Evening Star Grange and was the treasurer for the Levensaler Cemetery, Washington.
She was predeceased by one brother and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Earl A. Hewes of Washington; children, Cynthia Burns of Union, Judith Albert and husband Antoine of Cornville, and Barry Peabody and wife Lisa of Jefferson; brother, Richard Grierson and wife June of South Union; and grandchildren, Alana Burns of Bangor, Jonathan Burns of Union, Fawn Haynie and husband Nathanael of Athens, Robin Albert of Bangor, and Abigail, Megan and Philip Peabody of Jefferson.
A graveside service will be held at Levensaler Cemetery in Washington at a date and time to be announced.
