Naomi Doyle, 84, of Damariscotta, passed away in August. Naomi was born in 1928 in Haverhill, Mass. She graduated from Montclair High School and attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts where she met her husband of 64 years, Wilfred Doyle. Naomi moved all over the country with her husband and three daughters, finally settling in Montclair, N.J.
Naomi was a homemaker and an artist. She sewed the clothing for her daughters, baked homemade breads and biscuits and made all types of jelly.
Naomi held a number of paid positions, but the work she was most proud of was her volunteer work with the Girl Scouts and the YMCA. Naomi was a volunteer lifeguard and swimming teacher at the YMCA. She was a Girl Scout leader of juniors and cadettes for 10 years and was active in Girl Scouting for most of the rest of her life.
Naomi loved camping, swimming, and all types of crafts, especially quilting. She was a member of Clamshell Quilters and had some of her work exhibited.
Naomi spent summers at a cottage on Pemaquid Pond since 1949 and began her retirement living winters in Marco Island, Fla. and summers in Maine before becoming a full-time resident of Damariscotta in 2001.
Naomi always loved the outdoors and was very involved in protecting the environment. She was an active member of the Pemaquid Watershed Association, participating in water quality monitoring, loon counts, and other activities. Naomi, her husband Wilfred and his sister Carol Finnegan donated land to the PWA which is now the Doyle Preserve.
Naomi is survived by her husband, Wilfred Doyle; daughters, April Wolf, Jennifer Doyle, and Cheryl Doyle of Waldoboro; and grandchildren, Jennifer Waltz of Saco, Alisa Kidney, Rachel Schaefer and Stephanie Schaefer.
