Nathalie “Nan” Purington, 82, lifelong resident of Boothbay Harbor and recent resident of Seaside Nursing and Rehabilitation in Portland, died July 26 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Nan was born July 14, 1928 in Boothbay Harbor, the daughter of George and Edna McPhee L’Hostis, and attended the harbor schools, graduating from Boothbay Harbor High School, class of 1945.
In 1957 she began her career with Central Maine Power in its Boothbay Harbor and then Edgecomb office as an account manager, retiring in 1990.
Nan was not fond of leaving the peninsula, yet led an active life in town, getting together with friends for lunch, and visiting neighbors to talk the day away. She made lifelong friends in town, especially Gail Simmons, whom she grew up with, and Teaver, her next door neighbor of whom she thought of as a brother.
She enjoyed watching classic movies and reading, especially Gone With The Wind.
Nan is predeceased by her former husband Vaughn Fogg; second husband, Earl Purington; and sister, Betty Sitton.
Survivors include daughter, Linda Daniels and husband James of Portland; step sons, Earl Purington Jr. and wife Patricia of Addison and Dana Purington and wife Theresa of Scarborough; special cousins, Marilyn Smith and Karen Weingold, both of Shewsbury Mass.; nieces, Amber Page and husband Robert of Brunswick, Nancy Long of Boothbay, and Ann Leeman and husband Gary of Hancock; nephew, Neil Grover and wife Tracy of Boothbay; dog, Sammy Sue; and many cousins, great-nieces and nephews.
Ttime to visit with the family 1-3 p.m., Thurs., July 29 followed by a celebration of Nan’s life at 3 p.m. at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
