Neil S. Harvey, 66, of Waldoboro, died Sept. 20 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Neil was born Sept. 30, 1947 in Ellsworth to Sheldon and Minnie Carter Harvey. Neil grew up on Swan’s Island until he was five. He moved to Waldoboro with his family and lived the rest of his life in Waldoboro.
He was a fisherman all of his life, beginning as clam digger when he was 14 and lobstering until his death.
He married Barbara Bredeau and they shared 47 years of marriage. Family was the most important thing in Neil’s life. He enjoyed going hunting Down East with his boys and family. Every Sunday, the family came together to enjoy time together and some great picnics. He enjoyed the outdoors, tinkering and was a hands-on type of guy. He also enjoyed working on the water with his boys and singing with his grandchildren. He was a trustee, deacon and active member of the West Waldoboro Community Church.
He was predeceased by his parents; father-in-law, Louis Bredeau; brother-in-law, Donald Bredeau; and sister-in-law, Sheryl Harvey.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Harvey of Waldoboro; daughter, Rebecca Collyer and fiancé Dana Fogg of Waldoboro; sons, Shannon Harvey and wife Jennifer of Waldoboro, Jason Harvey and wife Kristen of Waldoboro, and Joshua Harvey and wife Leanne of Waldoboro; brothers, Wayne Harvey of Waldoboro, and John Harvey of Waldoboro; sister, Rhoda Harvey of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Michael Collyer, Benjamin Collyer, Hannah Fogg, Ashton Harvey, Sarah Harvey, Dillon Harvey, James Harvey, Jared Oliver, Chloe Harvey, Krysta Paul, Sophia Harvey, Bryent Harvey, Owen Harvey, and Jacob Carter, all of Waldoboro; mother-in-law, Doris Bredeau of Waldoboro; brother-in-law, Lawrence Bredeau of Waldoboro; sister-in-law, Lois Grover and husband David of Searsmont; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 25 followed by a service at 1 p.m. at Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main St. in Waldoboro. Burial will follow in the Shuman Cemetery in Waldoboro.
