Neil W. Barter, 73, of Boothbay Harbor, died Dec. 5 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor. He was born Sept. 23, 1939 in Boothbay Harbor to Malcolm and Avis Campbell Barter. He grew up on Barter’s Island. He graduated from Boothbay Region High School in the class of 1958. He married Sandra Pinkham in 1962. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1962 to 1965.
He worked at B.I.W. as an electrician then as a mechanic at Leavitt’s Garage in Boothbay for many years. He worked at Mill Cove Lobster for over 35 years in sales and various other duties until he retired.
He enjoyed racing and was a pit crew chief for Jon Marsh and helped Neil Reny as well. He was a college sports fanatic and followed the Celtics faithfully.
He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Greenleaf.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra Barter of Boothbay Harbor; sons, Richard Barter of Friendship, and Mark Barter of Boothbay; daughters, Brenda Bennett of Boothbay, and Tracey Osgood of Bristol; brother, Calvin Barter of Boothbay Harbor; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service 1 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 13 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay with Al Roberts officiating.
