Nellie G. Leeman, 88, of Round Pond, passed away on the evening of May 4 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta. Born in Round Pond on May 22, 1929, she was the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Carter) Gifford.
Nellie grew up on Louds Island and attended schools on the island. After her schooling, she moved back to the mainland and started working as a waitress at Moody’s Diner in Waldoboro. After many years waitressing, she went to work at Master’s Machine in Round Pond, where she worked in shipping and receiving.
Nellie enjoyed reading, working in her garden and checking out local yard sales. As much as anything, she enjoyed spending time at her home in Round Pond.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by son, Clyde Poland Sr.; long-time companion, Robert Poland; three brothers; and two half-brothers.
She is survived by daughter, Terry Taillon and husband Michael; grandson, CJ Poland and wife Amanda; and great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Kaylee Poland.
Nellie will be laid to rest privately in the Chamberlain Cemetery in Round Pond this summer.
