Nellie May Lancaster, 64, of Ashland, Ky., passed away Jan. 1 at Community Hospice Care Center.
Nellie was born April 1, 1953, in Lincoln, a daughter of the late Clayton Sr. and Jennie Dickinson Lancaster.
Nellie was a graduate of Island Falls High School and attended a small college in Portland on a basketball scholarship. Nellie was employed by Verizon.
Nellie lived in Damariscotta for seven years and worked for Contel and GTE.
She worked and lived in Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Michigan, and Texas before retiring and moving to Kentucky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Reggie and Ronald “Bo” Lancaster.
Nellie is survived by son, Jason Paul Lancaster of Astoria, Ore.; two special children came into her life and were like sons to her, Lee (Joan) Nussbaum of Damascus, Md., and Michael (Sara) Nussbaum of Brunswick; grandchildren, Zach and Samantha Nussbaum of Damascus, and Adam and Jack Nussbaum of Brunswick; life partner, Debbie Massie of Ashland, Ky.; and brothers, Terry (Bonnie) Stratton of Wildwood, Fla., John Lancaster of Skowhegan, and Clayton (Joan) Lancaster Jr. of Swanville.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 1 p.m., Sat., Jan. 6 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 2901 Winchester Ave., Ashland, Ky. with Pastor David Herndon officiating. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
