Nils Karlheinz “Nilo” Brunner, 75, of Walpole, died Feb. 2 at Chase Point in Damariscotta after a period of failing health.
Nilo was born July 5, 1935 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Carl F. and Olga Alwinna Buri Brunner, and attended schools in Floral Park, N.Y. He went on to graduate with a BA in Philosophy from Woffard College, and attended Emery University, taking post graduate courses.
After exploring several careers, he went on to work for Social Service for the City of New York, retiring after a career that spanned more than 20 years. Upon his retirement, he moved to Cary, N.C., and then followed his dream and moved to San Miguel, Mexico, where he became part of the ex-patriot community there.
While living in Mexico, he volunteered with Casa Linde Project, which built basic shelters for the poorer residents of the area, and also volunteered at a local orphanage.
Nilo was an avid black powder enthusiast, enjoyed archery and fishing.
Survivors include his sons Roland Brunner of Oakland, Cal. and Eric Brunner of Cary, N.C.; and brother, Dirk Brunner of Walpole.
