Norman J. Hochella, 83, of Stow, Mass., formerly of Medway, Mass. and originally from Hazelton, Penn., passed away on Feb. 3 from Parkinson’s disease related complications.
An enthusiastic summer visitor to the family’s camp in South Bristol, Norman was a long-time member of the American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemists, Sigma Xi and Chairman of the Board of the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra. He was passionate about preserving American Chestnut trees and colonial apple varieties. He loved beekeeping, gardening, and growing orchids. He played the tuba for over 30 years in the Southeastern Massachusetts Community Concert Band and the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia W. Hochella; daughter, Mary V. Hochella; son, Michael N. J. Hochella; and grandchildren, Harper M. and Elijah R. Libby, and Harmon M. and Hazel C. Hochella.
