Parker C. Carey, 88, of Damariscotta, passed away on the morning of Nov. 23 in Damariscotta. He was the husband of the late Joyce (Stableford) Carey. Born in Meriden, Conn. on Nov. 1, 1923, he was the son of Byron C. and Mabel P. Carey.
He served for three years in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant. He was well known in the retail shoe business, as he and his wife Joyce owned the Manning-Conwell shoe store for 50 years, which they closed in 1987. After working for two years at Footprints in Newington, Conn. he and his wife retired to Damariscotta.
He was very active in Damariscotta at the Skidompha Public Library as a volunteer, as well as co-managing the Skidompha Second Hand Book Shop for many years. He also volunteered as a Meals on Wheels driver.
He was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Newcastle where he was a choir member for 15 years. He also sang in various other choral groups.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Joyce Carey in 2008.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, Sarah, Jonathan, Sue, Bill, Ernie and Tina.
Memorial service 1 p.m., Fri., Dec. 9 at the St. Andrew’s Church in Newcastle.
