Pastor William W. Greenwood, Sr., 78, entered into Eternal Glory on the morning of April 25, while at his home.
The son of William W. and Esther (Peterson) Greenwood, he was born Jan. 29, 1929 in Sanford.
Following his graduation from Sanford High School, Bill relocated to Jacksonville, Fla. where he entered the U.S. Navy, serving honorably during the Korean War.
Upon returning to Maine, he furthered his education, first graduating from Southern Maine Technical Institute and later from Glen Cove Bible College.
Bill faithfully served Baptist churches throughout his 37-year ministry, including East Lebanon, Kingfield, Phillips and Jefferson, and at the time of his passing, was serving the Barter’s Island Baptist Church.
He loved to fabricate and reuse machinery and had a great respect for the land, receiving an appreciation award in 2003 from the Knox-Lincoln Conservation District.
He was predeceased by his son, David, in 1991.
Bill leaves his loving wife of 51 years, Avis (Lindquist) Greenwood of Newcastle; children, William Jr. of Abington, Mass., Janet Jeffery of No. Andover, Mass., Robert of Troy, Glenn of Old Town, and Jane Walshe of Kingston, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.
Friends are invited to be with the family 6-8 p.m., Mon., April 30 at Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
Service of Praise 1 p.m., Tues., May 1 at the Faith Baptist Church, Mills Rd., Newcastle, Pastors Bob Henderson and Dave O’Donnell co-officiating.
Bill will be laid to rest, with his son, at the Forest Grove Cemetery, in North Lebanon.
