Patricia Louise “Pat” Tipsword, 73, of Bath, passed away Aug. 2 with her family by her side, at Parkview Adventist Medical Center from a long-term illness.
She was born in Portland on Oct. 7, 1934, a daughter of Robert E. Sr. and Frances E. Salisbury Hamilton. She was educated in the Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1952.
She worked at Eaton Shoe Company and later at Congress Sportswear in Bath.
In October 1982 she married Harrison “Tippy” Tipsword.
Pat was a member of the Rebeccas and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Smith Tobey Post 21 of Bath.
Some of her favorite pastimes were singing, dancing, playing Bingo, and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She especially loved to spend time with her family and friends.
Pat is predeceased by her husband who died Feb. 22, 1997; a son, Timothy Thurlow; a grandson, Timothy Thurlow II; and a sister, Jeannette Hamilton.
She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Allisot and fiancé Steven Dowling of Bangor, and Kimberly Holbrook and husband Lew of Woolwich; two sons, Michael Thurlow of Boise, Ida., and David Thurlow and partner Ellie of Bath; sister, Jean Payson of Augusta; two brothers, Phil Hamilton and wife Glenice of Harpswell, and Bob Hamilton, Jr. and wife Clair of Brooks; several nieces, nephews and cousins; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
An hour of visiting 12-1 p.m., Wed., Aug. 6 at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. Funeral services 1 p.m., Wed., Aug. 6 at the funeral home. A reception will follow the funeral service, at the American Legion Post 21, 10 Congress Ave., Bath. Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
