Patrick LeRoi Sparks, born June 24, 1950 in Jacksonville, Fla., passed away peacefully Aug. 16, 2019 at the Togus VA in Augusta after a long battle with cancer. He was courageous, and maintained his sense of humor throughout this ordeal. He had the gift to make people laugh, no matter how he was feeling. He was residing in Damariscotta at the time of his death, formerly residing in Dallas, Texas for many years.
Patrick volunteered to serve with the Army after he graduated from Garden Grove High School, Garden Grove, Calif. He served in combat in Vietnam during 1969-1970, then returned to Texas and served in the 411 MPs at Ft. Hood, Texas until he was discharged honorably and returned to Garden Grove. There he served with the Garden Grove Police Department as a reserve officer for several years, after which he worked for Kaiser Aluminum for 29 years as a maintenance mechanic and later as a safety officer, first in California and later in Sherman, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Christine Eger, residing in Damariscotta; son, Caleb Sparks, wife Stephanie, daughters Reagan and Reese of Lake Tapps, Wash.; son, Benjamin Sparks, wife Mariah, sons Alexander and Tiberius of Cape Coral, Fla.; daughter, Amy Sparks, and children Taylor, Kai and Madison Arredondo residing in Washington state; stepdaughter, Jennifer Eger of Damariscotta; and stepson, Douglas Eger of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by sisters, Jan Mathis, Pegge Stevens, and Bobbie Frost, all residing in California, and sister, Carolyn Nelson of Ingleside, Texas; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, their children, and friends whom he loved deeply. And lest he be forgotten, his dear little Chihuahua Charlie that was his constant companion.
He will be dearly missed by all, and may he rest in peace knowing he was loved.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery 143 Blue Star Ave., Augusta, ME 04330.
