Paul A. Quintal, 88, of Nobleboro, passed away peacefully Oct. 26 at his residence after several months of declining health with his daughter at his side.
Paul was born in Randolph April 16, 1923, the eldest son of Aimee’ and Florence LeBeau Quintal and attended area schools including Litchfield Academy.
As a teenager, he worked in a local shoe factory, but soon began what would become a lifelong career, that of a Maine woodsman.
Paul loved the outdoors. He worked his woodlots to be sustainable, always with selective cutting. Several of the lots were designated as “Tree Farms.” He was also featured in a regional logging publication.
Paul’s work ethic was second to none. For years he enjoyed an early breakfast at Moody’s Diner, before starting his day. He “officially” retired age 78, however, he always kept himself active, around the house, going for walks, and feeding the birds.
On Nov. 3, 1948, he married Marcelle LeTarte. This year marked their 63rd wedding anniversary. Marcelle passed away unexpectedly Aug. 14 of this year.
He is predeceased by his wife; brothers, Phillip Quintal of Nobleboro and Herman Quintal of Freeport; sister, Anita James of Sabattus; and very good friend and co-worker, Bob Brown of New York.
Paul is survived by his daughter Paula Quintal Sprague of Nobleboro; granddaughter, Sierra Sprague of Merritt Island, Fla.; grandson, Brandon Sprague of Siler City, N.C.; and brother, Morns Quintal of Gardiner.
