Paul Allen Grover, 71, of Wiscasset, died Dec. 30 after a brief stay at Bodwell Health Center in Brunswick after a brave battle with cancer.
Born in Boothbay, April 7, 1938, son of Chester B. Grover Sr. and Velma (Bailey) Grover, he was raised in Woolwich, attending the Montsweag one room Sschool house, on the Montsweag Road in Woolwich. Paul later settled in Wiscasset with his wife Anna. He was a marine worm digger and later worked at B.I.W. Paul and Anna owned and operated Grovers’ Redemption Center.
Paul was an outdoors enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons and was a lifetime member of the Wiscasset Rod & Gun Club. Paul loved watching his grandchildren at their sporting events. You could always be sure to see Paul cheering them on from the sidelines. Paul also loved the time he spent with is special nephew and friend Steve Jones going to the ball games or just sitting around having coffee. After retirement from the redemption center, Paul and Anna enjoyed going to Foxwood Casino with friends Greg and Joan Curtis. Paul also enjoyed local political debates among those that would listen often trying to solve the problems of the town, controversy was his lifeblood.
He was predeceased by a brother, Chester B. Grover Jr.; and sisters, Esther Payne and Mildred “Dolly” Jones.
He leaves his wife of 43 years, Anna L. (Schools) Grover of Wiscasset; daughter, Terry Bowling and husband Donald of Woolwich; sons, Paul A. Grover Jr. and wife Heidi of Woolwich, and Chester B. Grover III and wife Michelle Metivier Grover of Wiscasset; grandchildren, Kenneth Ladd of Durham, Donald and Crystal Bowling of Woolwich, Tabitha, Ashley and Vicki Grover of Woolwich, and Nicholas, Devin and Brycson Grover of Wiscasset; great-grandchildren, Payson, Avery and Kaiden; adopted children, Allen Grover and Wendy (Grover) Ladd; sister, Kathleen Torrey.
Celebration with friends and family 1-4 p.m., Sun., Jan. 10 at Chet and Michelle Grover’s home in Wiscasset. Memorial event will take place at the Bailey Family Cemetery at a later date.
