Paul Edward Nichols, 86, of Chamberlain, died March 8 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
He was born Aug. 18, 1921 in Sidney, a son of the late John H. and Alice E. (Skinner) Nichols.
He was a graduate of Cony High School in Augusta, a member of the class of 1940, and served honorably with U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the V.F.W. On Jan. 31, 1942 he married Doris Webbley in Belmont, Mass.
Mr. Nichols was a landscaper and tree surgeon; maintained his own landscaping business in Connecticut for several years. He was an avid gardener, bird watcher, conservationist; active in many facets of wildlife improvement. He made jewelry as a hobby and enjoyed sharing his jewelry with his family and friends. He helped many in his community. Mr. Nichols enjoyed sharing things he grew in his garden with others and particularly enjoyed sharing his flowers, often taking them to the hospital to be shared with anyone who would enjoy them. He loved hunting, fishing and trapping.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Nichols is preceded in death by his wife.
Mr. Nichols is survived by three sons, Paul W. “Nick” Nichols and his wife Marlene of Falls Village, Conn., Steven B. Nichols and his wife Vicki of Round Pond, and Jay F. Nichols and his wife Tori of Marietta, Ga.; daughter, Cynthia N. Pruitt and her husband Jerry of Fort Smith, Ark.; brother, Kenneth Nichols of Augusta; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the convenience of his family.
