Pauline Bartlett Petrillo Hall, 83, of Newcastle, passed away at the Maine Medical Center with her family by her side on May 18. Born on May 9, 1927, she was the daughter of Sanford and Ida (Delano) Bartlett.
Polly graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1946 and attended both Farmington College and the University of Maine at Orono. After college, she worked in the area as a waitress and cook. She later worked as a seamstress doing dressmaking and alterations. Together with her husband, Anthony, she owned and operated Tony’s Market in Damariscotta from 1962 – 1972.
After the death of her first husband, Anthony, in 1986, she found great companionship with Douglas Hall, whom she married in 1990. She and Doug loved to travel and made several cross-country trips together before his death in 2001.
She was a member of the Wells-Hussey Post of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years, and also belonged to the Bunker Hill Grange and Ladies Aid. Throughout her life, Polly was very social in the community; she started her day with her morning coffee group and would spend the afternoon with her dinner crowd as well as many friends and family.
Besides her husbands and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Barry L. Petrillo; sisters, Ruth Clark and Ada Bartlett; and brothers, Howard, Joe and Bobby Bartlett.
She is survived by son, Michael Petrillo and wife Lynne of Newcastle; granddaughters, Katherine of Cambridge, Mass. and Alexandra of New Harbor; twin brother, Paul Bartlett of Newcastle; sisters, Anna Knapp of New Hampshire and Marie Webb of Connecticut; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Time of visitation 6-8 p.m., Fri., May 21 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Service for Polly 10 a.m., Sat., May 22 at the Bunker Hill Church. She will be laid to rest in the Bartlett Family Cemetery in Newcastle.
